"Oh~ Champs-Élysées~ Oh~ Champs-Élysées"

The widely known French song titled "Les Champs-Élysées" probably is the best evidence indicating just how famous the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is. After all, there are not that many songs using street names as titles.

The wide Avenue des Champs-Élysées stretching from Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde, is home to many name-brand shops and famed restaurants.

So far, the scales of the European cities Mr. T and I have visited are not horribly enormous, or maybe I should put it this way: the cities are big metropolises but all the main sites are not too far from each other, making it possible to hit almost every site by foot. Prague, Salzburg, Graz and even our temporary home, Vienna, are like that.

However, Paris is a totally different story!

Shall you have any doubt, just one trip strolling down the 2-km Champs-Élysées could make you realize that to see the important sites of Paris without taking any public transportation is simply impossible.

This is exactly what happened to Mr. T and I! Based on our previous experiences, we foolishly believed that we could walk through Paris. On the very first day we arrived in Paris, we walked from Eiffel Tower, through Palais de Chaillot to Arc de Triomphe. At the time, we still planned to walk all the way to le Louvre hoping to admire it at night. Nevertheless, even before we got to Place de la Concorde, I was already defeated, whining about how my feet hurt! Eventually, we just turned back to our hotel.

In spite of its name for victory, Arc de Triomphe, commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to mark the victory of the First Empire of France, seeing the losing of Napoleon and the end of the Empire in 1815, remained unfinished until 1836. Furthermost, Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées also witnessed some of the most embarrassing moments in French history, including the infamous marches through Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées in 1871 by the Prussian army and in 1940 by the German.

As said above, along Champs-Élysées, there are a lot of name brand shops.

The Louis Vuitton here is huge with several floors.

Mr. T and I went in to look around, but came out empty handed. Oh~well, I am too cheap to bring myself spending so much money on a bag! (shrug)

Other than that, the architectures here are quite interesting, too.
